Our interests are our articles.
Pressed is a journal designed to house interviews and photos from live musical acts in the Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York City areas. It began when Alana Summers started writing for her cousin, Elyse Jankowski, and her wonderful zine Stars and Scars. Unfortunately, S+S only publishes twice a year (and right now is on hiatus, possibly permanently, while Elyse goes to college), and Alana was setting up enough interviews to fill issues for years to come, so instead of creating a zine of her own, here we are online. Pressed exists as a companion to S+S, although it is not an extension of it. It is independently run, without the advertising that S+S uses to fund publication. This means that if you like what you read and want to send us a dollar or something, we'll kiss your feet. Well, no, but we'll be grateful. While we do receive the occasional press pass and photo kit, we still spend our own money on gas and tolls to shows, and this quickly adds up.
Alana is a college student and a mother. It's a trying job, but someone has to do it. She's still not sure why it's her. She has no prior history of journalism, and it probably shows, so forgive her.
Helping out occasionally are Greg, a television and radio producer in Philadelphia, and Adam, a retail monkey who likes prog rock and Lance Bass (so forgive HIM, too). Jared, a Floridian, has been known to step in when it comes to electronic music. You could help too. You just need to be highly motivated, dedicated, with transportation, writing skills, and follow-through. You don't have to live in the area. You don't have to like the same kind of music as I do--in fact, it's better if you don't. Because of past incidents, you may be asked to write CD or show reviews (unpublished elsewhere) without the luxury of press and photo passes. I hate to do that, but I've been burned quite a few times, and when I send out press inquiries, it's my reputation I'm putting forward. When the ball is dropped, it's both Pressed and my name that suffers.
Why, yes, we would love to check out your band, review your CD, or interview you. Please contact us at glitterkick at yahoo dot com
Our backlog is ridiculous; please be patient with us while we correct that. We're also incredibly sorry for any friendslist spamming that might occur during the updates.
